Middle School English Literature Appreciation

Course Description

Middle School English Literature Appreciation aims to develop students' deep appreciation of literature and its role in personal life and society. We will use analytical, historical and personal approaches to develop a comprehensive understanding of the themes, lessons and other insights in a given work. A variety of activities and exercises are incorporated into the curriculum to not only improve students' comprehension skills, but also to equip them with the ability to analyze and critique literary works effectively.

Through literary appreciation, students will acquire many skills that can be applied to other subjects, as 'inquiry' is at the heart of the curriculum. Furthermore, because the curriculum is dynamic and student-led, all students can fully participate, regardless of their current academic level. The end result will be the development of more thoughtful young people who can articulate ideas through in-text quotations and who have the self-confidence to make their voices heard.
